Pop-up Exhibition at Bryher Cafe

Excited to have my artworks showing at a special pop-up exhibition in Bryher Cafe, Launceston. I have been a regular here since they first opened, fantastic food (tasty and inventive dishes with a focus on local produce) and friendly neighbourhood service. My artworks showcase my love of the colourful land and streetscapes of Tasmania. Only until 29 January 2018!!

Minds do Matter Exhibition

Thrilled to have one of my townscape images used to advertise this fabulous exhibition at the QVMAG Community Gallery, Inveresk, Launceston. I think it was chosen to highlight the importance of community in mental health. The theme of the 2016 show is "Mental Health Begins with Me" and we are asked to contemplate what this means for each of us. It reminds me how important it is for artists and writers to have a supportive community around them. And that art helps us share our view of the world in the hope of connecting with others.

The exhibition is on at QVMAG Inveresk in Launceston to the end of October 2016.

Finding a Place

Artist Statement

Stephanie Parkyn

The title for this exhibition came, quite literally, when I was finding a place to live in Launceston after leaving Hobart in 2014. This unsettling resettling process lends itself to closer examination of the urban environment and our place in it. In the hillslopes of both Hobart and Launceston, the tension between wild bush and tamed gardens is evident. In our townscapes we seek order and control. From the moment that the first colonial fence posts were put into the ground, the concept of wilderness was born, creating an illusion of separation between human society and its environment.
